Jan Broeckx took over the directorship at the Ballet Academy of the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich since 1/10/2010. The Belgian-born completed his dance training in Antwerp, at the internationally renowned Royal Ballet School of Antwerp, based on the Vaganova system, and won at Age 17, in 1978 the Prix de Lausanne. Immediately afterwards he got offers and contracts as principal dancer (from 1978 to 1986 with the Ballet of Flanders, 1981-1985 at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and then the Bavarian State Ballet Munich). He was requested as an international guest dancer including  at the London Festival Ballet, La Scala in Milan, The Dutch National Ballet Amsterdam and other company’s. Also in Famous Galas as the World Ballet Festival Tokyo, the Gala des Etoiles in Montreal and at the Nijinsky Gala” in Hamburg, he was a very welcomed guest, ” Roland Petit saw him dance in Berlin (1982) and asked him, first as a guest and later as  danseur Etoile, to join the Ballet National de Marseille. During this long term relationship he performed numerous roles in ballets created by his mentor and had the rights, as one of his closest collaborators, to put up worldwide the works of Roland Petit, this in prestigious theaters such as the Paris Opera, La Scala in Milan, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Bolchoi and Kirov Ballet and others. In collaboration with R.Petit, he founded the school “Ecole Nationale Superieure de Danse Marseille”. His worldwide reputation as a dancer, teacher and Choreographic assistant made him an internationally requested Jurymember for International ballet competitions among them the YAGP, Japan Grand Prix, VKIBC and the Prix de Lausanne. He worked for film and television, as well as a ballet master (eg in La Scala in Milan and at the Zurich Opera House). in 1985 he was chosen in in Munich for the “Artist of the Year”. He has worked and performed also the choreographies of Famous artists as  Roland Petit, Rudolf Nureyev, George Balanchine, John Cranko, Hans van Manen, Rudi van Dantzig, Nils Christe, Ronald Hynd, Peter Schaufuss, Jiri Kylian. Furthermore he has danced as a partner with stars like Alessandra Ferri, Altinai Asylmuratova, Lucia Lacarra and the famous Zizi Jeanmaire.
